The look:
The early 1900s returned to inform Karl Lagerfeld’s autumn 09 collection a hundred years on, with Edwardian ruffs in tulle and lace adorning the cuffs of boxy jackets and creeping up the necks of disco sequined dresses. Colours were kept simple for spring, with black and white punctuated only with shots of apple, mint and baby pink, as the cohesive collection also offered up merino pussy bow knitwear, boucle dresses and sheer, pintucked blouses.

Key pieces:
Lagerfeld updated the skirt suit by rendering it in coated, textural fabrics and offering up an alternative to the classic square Chanel shape with V-shaped panelling.
