Christopher Kane took us to a much darker place this season with his sexy yet sinister collection. It opened with a march of brooding all-black exits, sliced with white pin stripes that developed into an iridescent animal print in synthetic inky blue and shiny moiré across pencil skirts, trousers and skinny padded jackets. Thick, pumped-up leather piping lined the edges of contrasting fabric panels, bringing structure to trims, and coiled around cutout waists on basic dresses. Black flock flowers adorned dresses for evening in deep violets and blood reds – a Victoriana feel that was turned on its head by the naughty semi-sheer fabrications. The closing show-stoppers had wire-embroidered designs, moving spring 12’s colourful childlike flowers into wilting blooms, and chunky jumpers woven with wire for Kane’s take on cable knits of the future.
