Sales at Swedish fast fashion chain H&M soared in April as the warm weather across Europe encouraged shoppers to update their wardrobe.
Group like-for-like sales jumped 11% year-on-year while total sales grew 21%, in local currencies including VAT.
The rise was H&M’s largest sales jump since August last year. The Swedish chain said it had seen a positive effect from Easter and the pleasant weather.
H&M’s global profits plummeted by 30% in its first quarter in the face of soaring cotton prices. The Swedish fashion giant’s profits were down to £259m in the 13 weeks to February 28 from £370m in 2010.
