Great news for MK however suspect, the the real reason is the opening of a new 75,000 sq ft Primark in the Spring, this has really driven footfall. Congrats to the MK management team who discovered it was the ‘most wanted’ retailer not present and reacting to it.

  • Comment on: ‘Exceptional' November for online sales

    David Coles's comment 18 December 2019 1:42 pm

Absolutely correct anon, Black Friday and payday was a great combination in the short term... but could lead to a December hangover as the John Lewis results for the start of the month indicate.

  • Comment on: Black Friday footfall rises

    David Coles's comment 2 December 2019 4:07 pm

Ouch! Springboard's prediction on November 27th....
''Footfall is predicted to drop by 4.5% year on year this Black Friday as shoppers are “unlikely to make trips to physical stores” for the event, new research has found.
Retail intelligence provider Springboard has revealed that footfall across bricks-and-mortar retail destinations is anticipated to decline by 4.5% on Black Friday, and high streets will be the hardest hit with a drop of 5.5%''
Not quite sure where the 'new research' originated from.

So true lord rose and Hina, 'realism, pragmatism and respecting democracy' as Lord Rose summarises. We absolutely need to move forward and start working within a new framework. The infighting & division has to stop. Then we can start solving some of the real issues that our sector faces.

  • Comment on: Brexit fears fuel worst-ever September

    David Coles's comment 9 October 2019 1:26 pm

As I have mentioned previously Brexit plays its part but there are much wider issues facing our industry. Changing shopping habits and priorities, lack of product innovation and over supply all play a significant part. There are still successful brands and retailers out there... they understand their consumer, market the product and excite !
