Debenhams appoints non-exec directors

Debenhams has added Martina King and Sophie Turner Laing to its board as non-executive directors. Both join on August 1 when Peter Long, who has been a non-executive director since 2006, will stand down.

King has spent her career in online marketing and media. She was previously managing director Europe of Yahoo and managing director of Capital Radio and now holds non-executive director positions at Independent Media Distribution, Capita Group and Johnson Press.

Turner Laing is currently managing director of entertainment and news at British Sky Broadcasting. She has previously held management positions at the BBC and Flextech (now Virgin Media).

Debenhams chairman John Lovering said: “I am delighted to welcome Martina King and Sophie Turner Laing to the board. I have no doubt that they will each make an important contribution to the future development of Debenhams and we particularly look forward to their input on marketing and media issues.”
