Drapers Awards 2016: Best Place to Work

Sponsored by AquaRetail

Duke St Emporium 2

Duke St Emporium 2

WINNER: Jigsaw

As if the 150 head office staff would need more than being served chef-made lunches for £2.50 in an Edwardian manor house, Jigsaw also offers its staff an office gym complete with a personal trainer who gives weekly one-to-one sessions, yoga classes, team-building days and personality evaluations with occupational psychologists. But what gave Jigsaw a gold star from this year’s judges is its newly launched C-Share plan, which offers employees shared ownership in the business and provides a profit-sharing arrangement as a reward for their contribution to Jigsaw’s performance. The C-Share plan aims to support retention, inspire working together and drive brand loyalty. In 2015, Jigsaw gave shares to every employee who had been with the company for more than a year. And on Christmas Eve, each received a share of the £500,000 dividend pool. This year’s employee survey pointed out that 90% of Jigsaw employees were proud to work there and 95% believe they can make a significant contribution to its success. Judges felt overall that “Jigsaw has the best work environment, including a chef plus its financial rewards, like its share scheme. Its long-term commitments trumps short-term gimmicks.”
