Drapers Next Generation - Shining the spotlight on fashion career paths and tomorrow's stars

The event will be held on 11th May 2017 at 30 Euston Square in London. 

Drapers Next Generation was created in 2010 to promote the diversity of career paths open to aspiring UK fashion professionals, providing them with networking opportunities and access to the leading lights within the UK fashion industry.

Aimed at young people working across multiple disciplines from roles such as design, to buying, merchandising, technical roles pattern cutting, store operations, ecommerce and digital and much more, the initiative is designed to give them the advice and insight they need to build their careers.

The Next Generation project kicks off every September with the search for Drapers’ 30 under 30 of the fashion industry’s stars of tomorrow. The nominations flood in and the highly anticipated list goes on to become one of Drapers most read pieces of content every year. The 30 under 30 is published both in print and online every January as part of Drapers Next Generation careers special, alongside in-depth features on a range of career paths and interviews with top CEOs and directors.

This will be followed by Drapers Next Generation event in May, where 300 places are won by first, second and third jobbers via a social media competition whereby they Tweet or Instagram a selfie that sums up their ‘day in the life of fashion’. A one day careers and networking conference, every year the agenda is packed with retail stars, with past speakers including former M&S boss Sir Stuart Rose, designer Matthew Williamson, Reiss founder David Reiss, Whistles chief executive Jane Shepherdson, and Ted Baker founder Ray Kelvin, among many others. Confirmed speakers this year include Jack Wills founder and CEO Peter Williams, East CEO Erica Vilkauls, outgoing House of Fraser CEO Nigel Oddy.

Places at the event are highly sought after, and the #DRNEXTGEN is normally one of the top five trending topics in the UK on Twitter that day.

Eight years in, the Next Generation initiative is without compare in providing this industry’s young people with an invaluable forum to meet, make connections, learn and professionally grow. The event sponsors, meanwhile, are highly involved in the day, which helps to position their businesses as employers of choice to this young audience.
