Exclusive: Knight quits JD Sports for Matalan

Tom Knight, the head of JD Sports’ new performance sportswear fascia JD Pro, has left the business after just over three months at the helm.

Knight, who joined JD last year to oversee the launch of JD Pro in November, is understood to be joining Matalan shortly.

Drapers understands that he is planning to spearhead the launch of a dedicated sportswear department or fascias at the value retailer.

A spokesman for JD confirmed that Knight was no longer with the business, saying he had been contracted on a consultancy basis.

“Once JD Pro was up and running he decided to leave to pursue other projects,” the spokesman said.

Earlier this week it was revealed that Matalan commercial director Adrian Mountford and sourcing director Margaret Melville, both of whom were board members, had left the business in January

Matalan declined to comment.
