Exclusive: New ecommerce portal attempts to woo indies

A new ecommerce portal for indies is hoping to attract between up to 100 retailers this year.

The Counter, which goes live in mid-March, is targeting a mix of contemporary womenswear and menswear indies and hopes to attract 80-100 boutiques to sell on its platform before the end of 2013.

The company says it has already attracted “a lot of interest”, with the likes of Lymington-based contemporary womenswear indie Stanwells already signed up.

The Counter is open to indies with existing ecommerce sites as well as those who are not currently online.

Founder Matthew Blanchard said The Counter would offer a more “personal” approach to existing portals.

The Counter will spend time with each indie after they sign up, visiting their store and getting to know the team in order to deliver a more personal message about each boutique to the customer shopping on the site.
