Fashion sales edge up at John Lewis

Fashion sales enjoyed mixed fortunes in the week to June 16 at John Lewis edging up by just 1%.

Factors including mixed weather conditions and Sales in the latter part of the week meant that womenswear sales dipped just below the line.

However, some areas of womenswear including JL Collection, were up 11.1% while women’s accessories were up 5.2% on last year.

Men’s accessories were also up 9.2% helped by people shopping for Father’s day while kidswear increased 7.8% compared to the same week last year.

Overall sales at the department store were up 11.5% while its site achieved an uplift on last year of 38.4% with a very strong performance in fashion up 33.2%.

According to director of selling operations David Barford, more than half of John Lewis branches saw increases on last year.

“Topping the table with double figures were Poole at 29.3%, Croydon at 22.1%, Tunbridge Wells at 20.3% and Knight & Lee with 11.6%,” he said.
