Fashion sales rise 10.5% for week to April 12

Fashion sales rose 10.5% for the week to April 12 compared to the same week last year, according to BDO Stoy Hayward’s High Street Sales Tracker.

Total like-for-like retail sales rose 7.9%, the strongest level of growth posted since the first week of January. However, retailers benefited from the Easter calendar shift which saw the holiday period earlier last year. Within fashion, footwear and younger fashion brands were the top performers.

BDO Stoy Hayward head of retail Rupert Eastell said: “Fashion retailers had a particularly good week with a strong uplift in takings. If sales continue to stay in the black, then April could see two consecutive months of positive growth, the first for more than two years.”
