Fashion sales increased by a massive 20.1% at John Lewis for the week to June 2 driven by strong growth across menswear, womenswear and kidswear.
The department store group said that a combination of the warmer weather at the start of the week coupled with price matching activity led to strong sales of summer lines including sandals, sunglasses, T-shirts and summer dresses.
Overall sales at were up 15% when compared to the same week last year and the department store’s online business johnlewis.com also enjoyed a strong week with sales up 54% on the previous year.

“Looking forward, despite the bank holiday weather disappointing those who had looked forward to a day or two in the garden, this has meant a stronger start to this week than might otherwise have been expected and, as such there is every reason to be optimistic,” said Simon Williams head of corporate sales John Lewis.
