Fashion sales at John Lewis rose an impressive 18% last week as half-term trade helped to lift sales of kidswear.
Menswear and womenswear also performed well in the week to November 3, contributing to an 18% overall rise in fashion sales.
In menswear it was John Lewis’ own-brand John Lewis & Co which was the star performer while in womenswear it was the retailer’s branded offer that was attracting the most attention.
Women’s accessories also had a strong week.
Overall sales at the retailer were up 17.9% with online sales up an impressive 45% compared to the same week the previous year.
All but four of the retailer’s stores had improved sales when compared to the prior year with John Lewis’ Trafford store leading the way, up by 30%.
“With half term behind us, and our final new shop of 2012 opening in Ipswich on Thursday, Christmas is very much upon us,” said managing director Andy Street.
“The starting gun will be fired with our beautiful Christmas advert launching today. Enjoy the next seven weeks.”
