Footfall up at Bluewater

Bluewater shopping centre in Kent saw footfall rise 2% in January.

Bluewater said its visitor numbers were up because it was viewed by shoppers as a “day-out” destination.

Bluewater general manager Andrew Parkinson said: “Now more than ever, consumers are looking for a greater return not only on how they spend their money, but their time. In essence, consumers want a great day out.”

Bluewater also saw a boost to footfall in the run up to Christmas. Visitor numbers were ahead by 4% on the Christmas trading period in 2007. More than six million people visited the shopping centre in November and December.

Hollister, the sister chain to Abercrombie & Fitch, opened a shop at Bluewater at the end of January.
