Gap's international sales drop 6%

Gap’s international like-for-like sales, which includes its UK sales, fell 6% for the four weeks to February 28. Total group sales were down 12% to $795 million (£559m).

Gap’s total sales drop compared to a fall of 6% for the same period last year.

Like-for-like sales for the Gap stores in North America were down 12%, compared to a 3% drop last year. At Banana Republic stores, like-for-likes dropped 16%, while Old Navy saw a 13% drop in like-for-like sales over the month.

Gap chief financial officer Sabrina Simmons said: “While sales results were challenging, we’re pleased that merchandise margins were in line with last year.”
