Giorgio Armani

The look:
Evoking a catwalk era populated by the charms of Jerry Hall and Marie Helvin, Armani’s sophisticated take on the 1980’s found the designer emphasising shoulders on tailoring, playing with proportions on skirts and creating subtle drama through shimmering cocktail dresses.

Key pieces:
Strong-shouldered single-buttoned tailored jackets paired with lantern shaped skirts set out Armani’s 1980’s stall from the outset. Adhering to a play-safe palette of grey and black, Armani followed with a knitwear story that found shawl-collared wrap-over tailored styles appearing alongside slash-sleeved coat-length cardigans. Sharply tailored skirt suits had waistcoats and jackets flaring sharply from the waistline while double-breasted Nehru-collared jackets had contrast panels in cut-out floral fabrics.
