Golden Lane aims to build on London pop-up success

Women’s accessories label Golden Lane is looking for a longer-term store after the triumphant launch of its Covent Garden pop-up shop.

The 500 sq ft pop-up on Monmouth Street, which opened on May 14 and sells the full range of clutch bags and satchels, will close on June 11.

Tibor Matyas, who set up Golden Lane last year with fellow designer Chris Liu, told Drapers he would like to secure a year-long lease at the unit or move to another London premises for an October opening.

“The reaction has been very positive so we’re looking for something longer term,” he said. “We’re a very retail-oriented brand and we always thought we would open our own store in London. We just have to test out different neighbourhoods now.”

Golden Lane is stocked by department stores Fenwick of Bond Street in the UK, Barneys and Saks Fifth Avenue in New York, Harvey Nichols in Hong Kong and Isetan in Tokyo.

Retail prices for clutches start at £165, with satchels from £395 to £475.

Matyas and Liu also own men’s accessories brand Chris & Tibor, which they founded in 2006.
