A solid range, if missing a little in terms of excitement. It also comes off a touch pricey.
- In Debenhams, 34-40 Eastgate Street
Within Debenhams’ footwear offer, Dune has a range of styles tentatively covering the season’s leading trends matched by a good quality level. There is a solid mix of heel styles, from small kittens to mid-heights and higher platforms. The boot offer is strong, with knee-high styles, heeled ankle boots and wedge boots. Within boots there is a mix of simple styles and more embellished, buckled or studded versions. Similarly, the flats offer includes more directional full-studded ballet flats to pared-back styles to catch the eyes of a wider demographic of shoppers.
An on-trend suede wedge boot seen almost everywhere during this survey is a pricey £85 at Dune, but the quality makes it competitive. A suede ballet is quite a lot at £45 while a diamanté studded ballet at £75 is decent quality but seems a little expensive.
Having moved the footwear area of Debenhams from the ground floor to the first floor, despite it being more awkward to access, the store has installed signs stuck to the floor leading from the entrance of the old footwear area all the way to the new location, which is a clever way of directing customers. These stickers also feature some of the season’s key trends, serving as a great advertisement for the product upstairs. The new footwear area is full of product but doesn’t feel too cramped and each concession is clearly separated. There is adequate seating and staff were pleasant when engaged but did not approach customers.
