Topshop does not disappoint in the footwear department. Mannequins throughout the store are merchandised with a range of this season’s key styles, from chunky ankle boots to lace-up loafers, and there is a huge choice of trend-led shoes across the lower ground floor. There are colour-pop leather stilettos at a reasonable £50, cheaper than a £60 pair in Dune. The wall of ballet pumps with prices from £16 for styles with leather uppers offers good value. Plenty of seating is available for shoppers to try on shoes, and concessions from Kurt Geiger, Dune and Offspring are another advantage. Topman’s footwear area is relatively large compared with other multiples visited, and the branded offer is strong, with a selection from Ted Baker, Bertie and Dune. Prices are competitive, with loafers starting at £32 and leather brogues matching Next’s versions at £50.
As is the case with all areas of this mammoth store, the women’s footwear area feels overwhelming. There was a shortage of staff in this department and no one to offer shoppers assistance. This was irritating as there were only a few sizes on display and this slowed down service.
