60s Pop

After a strong two-season reign, the 1970s gave way to earlier inspirations on the A/W 11/12 catwalks, as designers looked to the 1960s.

Heavily influenced by art - think modernism and constructivism as key influences for minimal, blocky silhouettes and flat planes of saturated colour - it was also an innovative period for materials. Designers such as Paco Rabanne and Pierre Cardin experimented with plastics and synthetics, which we see working for the jewellery market (see Blugirl and Hermès). Key items include ankle boots (as at Preen), square bags and plastic jewellery.
