Inspired by glam rock and the glitter glut on the A/W 11/12 catwalks, WGSN predicts party styles with a masculine edge and a touch of androgyny
For inspiration, think Ziggy Stardust on stage with playful zigzag graphics and glitzy embellishments together with angular cutting to keep it sharp and add drama. Catwalk inspiration comes from the Balmain, Dolce & Gabbana and Jeremy Scott A/W 11/12 shows, with a touch of Miu Miu’s star-strewn S/S 11 collection (in particular the handbags).
For the colour palette, metallic brights of electric blue and yellow gold are paired with black and white and highlighted with bold red and zesty marigold.
Key items and details to look out for include:
■ Bright sequined evening jackets with a boxy silhouette, tuxedo details (like our tuxedo dress, shown in WGSN original artwork), double-breasted fastenings and peaked lapels in silk satin.
■ Embellishment and more embellishment in the form of appliqué graphics, clustered sequin placements (on jacket collars for instance), glitter prints and all-over dense paillettes.
■ For a dramatic edge look for crystal-encrusted jumpsuits, statement bodysuits and severe angled cutouts.
■ V-shaped lines and panelled pattern cutting that slash up the silhouette, emphasise the shoulders and elongate the body.
