Do some woolly thinking for autumn

According to the latest weather forecasts, the UK is set for an extraordinary two-week heatwave starting this weekend, which should provide a welcome boost to spring sales, which have been patchy as nervous consumers rein in spending.

It seems perverse therefore to be talking about what looks set to be a big hit for winter. That is the fusion of traditional Nordic and Navajo knits and woollens that is going to be everywhere on the high street this autumn, according to the collection previews which WGSN and other key fashion press have seen in recent weeks

For indies it may seem too late to be seeing what’s on the high street since much of the autumn budget will have been committed way back in February during trade show season.

But it is worth taking a look at what the high street is up to since these are the looks that will dominate the press and your customers’ minds next season.
Look to short-order and accessories brands for close-to-season and in-season purchases. The great thing about this look is that a few yards of chunky knit wrapped around your neck and a Navajo-inspired bag is all you need to look in the know, without looking like you’re in costume.

Next week, we’ll bring you more of these A/W 11/12 trends along with tips on how to tap into them. Stay tuned.
