Drapers 30 Under 30 2020: Surbhi Marwah, senior product specialist, Zalando

Age: 29

Tech whizz Surbhi Marwah has spent the last 12 months designing and delivering an innovative new product, Connected Retail, for German etailer Zalando. Via the program, Zalando partners can connect stock in their bricks-and-mortar stores with the etailer’s platform. Garments can then be shipped direct from stores to customers.

Based at Zalando’s Helsinki tech hub, Marwah is the leading product specialist on Connected Retail and works closely with the team at Zalando’s headquarters in Berlin.

Marwah started at Zalando in 2019 as a senior product specialist.

Connected Retail has driven a dramatic revenue lift for participating retailers and has tangible sustainability benefits, as the distance a parcel travels from stock location to delivery address is dramatically reduced.

“Surbhi is making a huge difference to Zalando,” says Carsten Keller, vice-president of direct to consumer at Zalando. “She has all the skills necessary to leave a very strong mark on this industry. She is smart, visionary and pragmatic. She’s also highly innovative and is bringing the future of retail to life today.”

Marwah believes that challenging yourself regularly and stepping outside your comfort zone is the secret to a successful career in retail.
