Emu to make retail debut next month

Sheepskin footwear brand Emu Australia will open its first standalone store next month – a pop-up shop on Lamb’s Conduit Street, London.

The store will stock men’s and women’s footwear, clothing and accessories during the three months it will be open. Emu has about 300 stockists in the UK.

This month rival Deckers, owner of popular footwear brand Ugg, started legal proceedings against Emu Australia, claiming infringement of its Ugg trademark.

Deckers filed a trademark infringement suit at the United States District Court in the Central District of California earlier this month. It is seeking a court order to prevent Emu from using its trademarks.

The company alleged that Emu has intentionally misled customers into believing they are buying an Ugg product.

Emu Australia played down the lawsuit. Chief operating officer Dave Porter said at the time: “The fact that Ugg Australia has filed a law suit against a company for misleading consumers makes us laugh down here in Australia.”
