Harvey Nichols reports record Sale

Harvey Nichols, the luxury department store business, said that its post-Christmas Sale had broken records despite tube strikes in the capital, reduced trading hours on Boxing Day and problems with transportation due to the snow.

Harvey Nichols said that shopper queues started on Boxing Day morning with some arriving in the early hours of the morning.

Following a strong year for handbag sales, stock levels of last season’s must-have handbags were limited at 30% discount. The Givenchy Laila Boston studded bag, which was reduced to £305 from £435, and the YSL Easy Y Medium Nylon bag, priced at £515 in the Sale compared with £735, were key sellers.

The fourth floor of the Knightsbridge store had performed well during the first three days of the post-Christmas Sale, added Harvey Nichols, with brands including McQ and 3.1 Phillip Lim “excelling”. D&G outperformed the rest with the designer label’s denim trim coat at 50% off selling out in the first hour.

Harvey Nichols said that menswear had been “exceptional” so far, with brands including Paul Smith and Acne among the bestsellers.
