Kurt Geiger to launch discount website

Premium footwear retailer Kurt Geiger is to launch a discount website early next year in a bid to grow revenues from the channel.

Kurt Geiger, which reported a 25% rise in sales over the nine months to October 30 in its latest trading update, will sell out-of-season or slow-moving lines of footwear on the site, set to be named Shoeaholics.

Last month the 63-store retailer said like-for-likes soared 30% in the week commencing November 15. Kurt Geiger said sales of towering heels above 120mm in height quadrupled compared to last year during the week as shoppers scrutinised and followed catwalk trends more closely.

The chain plans to open more than 32 stores in countries including Russia, Turkey and Malaysia over the next five years. By 2016, the total number of Kurt Geiger stores overseas will double from 19 to 50.

Kurt Geiger extended its production overseas to cut on costs and increase margin which probably was a shrewd move but it also require to increase volumes significantly. As a result, they probably got overstocks.
Opening an outlet is one of the best ways to get rid of overstocks while still being in control of the brand image I guess and Kurt Geiger gets assimilated to the likes of Dolce& Gabbana etc. Well done.

  • And a great way of reaching a younger consumer that would love to shop at Kurt Geiger but can't afford to right now.
