Stephen Buck, the owner of women’s footwear chain Moda In Pelle, has made an indicative offer for branded footwear chain Mr Shoes after it fell into administration last week.
Buck confirmed he was interested in rescuing the chain but declined to reveal his plans for it if his bid was successful. There are thought to be other parties circling the business.
Mr Shoes, which stocks more than 30 brands including Skechers, CAT Footwear and Sugar, had 23 stores in the Midlands and south of England, plus a transactional website and annual sales of about £7 million. Administrators Larking Gowen immediately shut down nine stores.
Joint administrator Bob Rose said: “We have high hopes of being able to find a buyer for the company as it’s a good business.”
Mr Shoes was owned by former Olympic athlete Mike Tagg. Tagg rescued footwear chain Jade from administration in 2007 and bolted it onto the Mr Shoes business.
Sources suggested Tagg may look to buy back some of the stores. Tagg could not be reached for comment.
