Drapers gets the lowdown on the latest gossip and reports back from the hottest parties and events

Brand designs London Fashion Network held an event on brand building at Cantaloupe, a restaurant in Shoreditch, London, at the end of last month. Attendees included brand consultant Eliot Young and Alexandra Finlay of footwear brand Fin’s.

Basler première German mainstream womenswear brand Basler showcased its collections on the catwalk for the first time at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Berlin. The show was attended by celebrities such as Hollywood actress Mira Sorvino, who posed in her bespoke Basler dress beside the brand’s retail managing director Markus Wahl.

Perfect vision Skillsmart Retail held the final round of its annual visual merchandising competition for students at London Olympia recently. SkillVM 2011 was won by Melissa Dunne and Jenna Stephenson from Liverpool Community College, who will have their design (pictured) recreated this summer in the window of the Peter Jones store in Sloane Square, London.

Birthday suit Friends of menswear etailer A Suit That Fits were treated to food, drink and music when it celebrated its fifth birthday at Courvoisier’s Future Gallery in London. Founders David Hathiramani (left) and Warren Bennett led the celebrations.

Wakeley’s World Designer Amanda Wakeley was guest of honour as solicitors Collyer Bristow hosted a reception to celebrate its collaborative exhibition with the V&A of prints in its gallery at its Bedford Row office in London. Wakeley (left, with Collyer Bristow’s Tania Goodman), talked about her 21 years in fashion.
