WHAT Scottish Academy of Fashion’s inaugural Johnstons of Elgin Prize

Johnstons of Elgin managing director James Dracup (left) awarded £1,000 each to the winners of the Scottish Academy of Fashion’s inaugural Johnstons of Elgin Prize. The two students were given fabric and yarns from Johnstons’ autumn 12 collection to make up garments to be displayed at the Scottish Borders Design and Technology Showcase.

The winners Edinburgh College of Art student Andrew Alastair McLaren (centre) won the award for tailoring, while Sonia Jane Hunter (right) of Heriot-Watt University was victorious in the knitwear category.

Occasionwear retailer Coast held a party to celebrate the opening of its London flagship store. Guests were treated to an exclusive fashion show showcasing the product available to buy in-store. Guests included Coast managing director, Margaret McDonald, and Derek Lovelock, chairman of Aurora Fashions, Coast’s parent company.
