This week’s hottest happenings.

Style in the aisle

We enjoy a challenge here at Drapers, so can you spot the difference? One of these images is taken from the recent Chanel show during Paris Fashion Week, while the other was staged by George at Asda at the supermarket’s Park Royal branch in northwest London. With Chanel’s supermarket chic everyone’s favourite talking point of the autumn 14 catwalk shows, we love the real grocery store’s tongue-in-cheek tribute.

A Warehouse full of dancing

Warehouse’s new Oxford Street store felt more like a club than a shop last Thursday, as the retailer celebrated the opening of its London flagship store. Pulsating music, celebrity DJs including Amber Le Bon, and plenty of appletinis added to the buzzing atmosphere. Warehouse brand director Paula Stewart kicked off proceedings with a rousing speech.

Dummies crash into micam

A troop of crash test dummies made a different kind of impact at footwear show Micam in Milan. More used to driving cars into walls, the dummies were given time off by Italian boot brand Lumberjack to model its wares while rotating on a conveyer belt.

Professors launch new chapter

A catwalk of perfectly merchandised mannequins greeted guests on arrival at the launch of Sarah Bailey and Jonathan Bakers’ (pictured) new book Visual Merchandising for Fashion last week. Guests tipped their hats to the London College of Fashion professors and celebrated the Bloomsbury title late into the night.

A star on the rise

Drapers was pleased to hear this week from Marianne Sparrenius-Waters, two-time finalist at the Drapers Footwear & Accessories Awards for Accessories Designer of the Year. Her brand RedDog has just been picked up by John Lewis and will go in all its stores in May.

Kickers brings out the jocks and nerds

Footwear brand Kickers teamed up with fashion magazine Jocks and Nerds to toast its latest issue last week. Guests were treated to a film on UK style and fashion subcultures, while DJ Spoony (pictured with Jocks and Nerds editor-in-chief Marcus Agerman Ross) got people dancing.
