This week’s hottest happenings.
Smartly turned out at John Lewis
Heritage-inspired menswear brand Smart Turnout has opened a pop-up on the ground floor of John Lewis’s London Oxford Street store. Running until mid-March, the space showcases the brand’s latest collection and celebrates its thoroughly English charm.
Ecomm is shaken and stirred
An ecomm crowd gathered for networking and cocktail making at The Met Bar on London’s Old Park Lane. The event was hosted by Drapers’ 30 Under 30 star Leon Bailey-Green who was joined by (from left) Lucy Plinston of Cheshire indie Black White Denim, Drapers’ own Ana Santi and Keely Stocker, Curtis Jacoby from etailer Tom Dick and Harry and Black White Denim’s Jo Davies.
Tipping their hats
Cap brand New Era pitched up at Shoreditch’s Hoxton Gallery last week to celebrate the launch of its Heritage Series. Kicking things off with the unveiling of its 1934 collection, which pays homage to the first ever baseball cap, the display of caps in premium fabrics pulled in a crowd of hat-toting New Era fans.
Art on your sleeve
London’s Fashion and Textile Museum is hosting Artist Textiles, an exhibition celebrating art that has been made into clothing and furnishings. Salvador Dalí , Henry Moore, Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol are just some of the artists whose work appears in the show, which is open now and runs until May 17.
A model comeback
There was a flashback at Paris Fashion Week, as Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bündchen made an unexpected return to the international fashion week scene during Balenciaga’s autumn14 catwalk. The world’s highest-paid model joined fellow supermodel Naomi Campbell, who graced the Philipp Plein catwalk at Milan Fashion Week.
Weller’s style counsel
Drapers was rather excited to meet Paul Weller last week, as we discussed his new clothing collection, Real Stars are Rare. Weller is working with business partner Phil Bickley (right), owner of London menswear independent Tonic, on the range, which launched for autumn 14. Keep an eye out for the exclusive interview in Drapers on March 15. See below for the video preview.
