People, gossip, parties…
Seat of learning
Glasgow Caledonian University pulled in some retailing heavy hitters for a dinner to launch the British School of Fashion at its campus in the appropriately named Fashion Street in Spitalfields, London. Christos Angelides of Next, John King of House of Fraser, Hash Ladha from Oasis and Richard Craig of Margaret Howell were among the guests. Three flowers of Scotland - Stephen Craig of Needle & Thread, Gino Da’Prato from Fourmarketing and Duchamp’s Marc Psoralis - found their way to the Scottish uni’s event, while Hannah Coffin of Needle & Thread posed with Professor Christopher Moore, director of the BSoF.
The Sandro flagship opened last week on King Street in Covent Garden with a suitably chic party for the French premium brand. Singers Ellie Goulding and Conor Maynard formed a duo, and guests including model Zara Martin, actress Samantha Barks and TV presenter Laura Whitmore dined on canapés of - no prizes for guessing - steak frites and champagne.
One for the Trunk road
Mats Klingberg (centre) was the genial host of a gathering to celebrate the third anniversary of Trunk Clothiers, his menswear shop in Marylebone, which is the current Drapers Premium Retailer of the Year. Among his eclectic guests were Robert Rose (left), co-founder of womenswear brand Pink Soda, who now sells scarves under the Rose & Rose brand, and Simon Crompton (right), creator of luxury menswear blog Permanent Style.
Young Ideas has a new idea
Contemporary retailer Young Ideas welcomed customers into its store in Ashbourne, Derbyshire, last week to celebrate the launch of its menswear offer. Guests enjoyed live music and supped drinks from the Derby Brewing Company. Grahame Epps from Paul Smith, Young Ideas owner Anne Wright, model Harry Croft, Young Ideas online marketing manager Steph Wass and Paul Smith’s Simon Labbate all joined in the fun.
Some like it hot at Exley Hervey
Headhunter Exley Hervey Executive Search celebrated its 10th birthday with a champagne-fuelled bash at Mayfair’s Dartmouth House last week. Managing director Lesley Exley (top right) raised a toast with Dilys Maltby from consultancy Circus, while Drapers’ Victoria Gallagher and Weird Fish’s John Stockton had a blonde moment with a Marilyn Monroe impersonator.
