Perry Ellis manager recruited by Deckers

David Ward, former managing director of distributor Perry Ellis Europe, is to head UK distribution of sheepskin boot brand Ugg Australia as general manager for Deckers.

Ward will be responsible for distributing and growing all of Deckers’ brands in the UK and Republic of Ireland. In addition to Ugg it owns outdoor footwear brand Teva and eco-friendly brand Simple Shoes. It will introduce sports footwear brand Ahnu into the UK within the next two years.

Deckers ended its eight-year distribution deal with AMG Footwear in February in order to sell its brands direct. It will begin distributing them in January 2011 for autumn 11.

Ward said there were no plans to alter terms or distribution strategy. He said: “We are very grateful for their love of the brand and we want that to continue. Our target is to safely transfer the successful business from an AMG relationship with retailers to a Deckers relationship.”

Deckers has hired eight AMG staff and is recruiting up to 30 additional staff.
