Ugg Australia to move in to knitwear

Ugg Australia, the footwear brand renowned for its sheepskin boots, is to expand in to knitwear.

According to reports, Ugg Australia is set to launch a women’s and men’s knitwear collection for autumn 10 available in US department store Neiman Marcus, Ugg standalone stores in the country and online at www.uggaustralia.com.

It is unclear whether the ranges will be available in stores in the UK.

The womenswear collection features cashmere-wool chunky hand-knit cable V-necks, cardigans and Italian merino wool sweater coats, brushed lambswool ponchos and cable-knit sweaters with hoods lined with shearling.

For the menswear range, fisherman cables in turtle necks and V-necks feature.

US wholesale prices reportedly range from $97 (£61) to $297 (£188).

Ugg also produces shearling, down and leather coats and licenses cold-weather accessories and handbags.

Ugg boots have been a phenomenal sales success in the UK, helping the whole business, which is owned by Deckers in the US, to increase sales by 35% to $100.2m (£63.4m), from $74.4m (£47.1m).
