***UPDATED***What would be the most attention retaining and interest creating training package for staff?

Training can be more effective when employees are involved in selecting the training package.  Allowing them to contribute to a discussion about skills gaps and training needs will mean that they understand the training goals and are committed to the programme provided.

Linda Florance, Chief Executive, Skillfast-UK

Individuals learn in different ways so the most effective development programmes always seek to include elements that allow learners to develop at their own pace in their own way.

Broadly speaking how we learn can be divided into 4 ‘styles’:

  • Watching
  • Thinking
  • Doing
  • Feeling

(Kolb Learner Styles)

The programme will depend on who you are developing and the change in knowledge, skills and behavior you are looking to effect but would ideally allow for different learner styles and incorporate elements of all four styles to have the most impact across your team.
