House of Fraser launches 5-day discount event

House of Fraser has launched a five-day Sale event with discounts of up to 25% on selected lines, as the price war on the high street hots up.

House of Fraser’s promotions include up to 20% off Warehouse, Country Casuals and Episode on womenswear, up to 20% off Levi’s Ben Sherman and Fred Perry on menswear, as well as discounts on kidswear and accessories.

The event runs online for five days and in store for four days from today, and follows a buy-one-get-one-half-price promotion on menswear last week.

Debenhams launched a 25% off New Season Spectacular Sale on all its new season stock today. Its promotion will run for four days and will include discounts on Betty Jackson.Black, Star by Julien Macdonald, as well as money off at some of its concession partners, including Oasis, Jane Norman and Warehouse. It also has some “bonus offers” where discounts are higher than 25%.

Debenhams deputy chief executive Michael Sharp said: “When times are hard we have a duty to give customers better value than ever.  As all this activity is planned there is no other retailer better placed to deliver it.”

Debenhams said that it held a similar event at the same time last year.

House of Fraser insisted that its promotion had been planned in advance and was not a reaction to the Debenhams event.

Debenhams and House of Fraser were engaged in a promotion war in the run up to Christmas, with both department stores running several similar Spectacular Sales on consecutive weeks.
