How to be a PR and marketing manager for a young fashion brand

Advice from Gemma Wood, Operations manager at CVUK

To begin a career in fashion marketing and PR, you should ideally be educated to degree level, and it would also be worth considering studying for a marketing qualification with The Chartered Institute of Marketing. It is beneficial to have industry placements/ internships.

You will have progressed from either a PR or marketing background and will have a solid understanding of launching and marketing websites, direct marketing, as well as having evidence of managing budgets and implementing and evaluating PR and marketing calendars.

A long-standing passion for the fashion industry is a must.

You will need to be a strategic thinker and possess great communication skills, having managed a team with budget responsibility.

During your career you will have built a network of press contacts and will be self-motivated with the ability to drive your team.

Employers will look for solid progression through your career, an excellent understanding of the brand and its customer.

Depending on the size of the business, you can expect to earn from £50,000 to £70,000.
