How to be a Sales and marketing manager for a swimwear and beachwear brand

Deepak Saluja, Managing consultant, Success Appointments

Candidates should look for opportunities in industry-related press and websites that cover the sector, and attend forums and conferences where they can network.

You should be educated to degree level and I’d suggest studying for a marketing qualification from a professional body such as the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

You will need at least five years of sales and marketing experience and should have good experience of sales, brand and direct marketing, strategy, key stakeholder skills, managing teams, and budget responsibility. Employers look for candidates who can show evidence of campaigns where there is clear return on investment (RoI).

As head of sales and marketing you can expect to be responsible for delivering creative, customer-focused point-of-sale (PoS) and marketing communications for your company and high sales targets.

You will be involved in compiling sales forecasts, targets, incentives, marketing, planning the promotional calendar, managing a team of one to eight, building external relationships with designers, advertising agencies and product suppliers.

Salaries range from £50,000 to £75,000, depending on experience.
