Italian designer Missoni aboard missing plane

The head of Italian Missoni fashion label has been reported missing after his plane disappeared off the coast of Venezuela.

Vittorio Missoni was travelling on the small BN-2 Islander aircraft from the resort island of Los Roques to the Venezuelan capital Caracas when it disappeared off the radar on Friday (January 4).

The plane was believed to be carrying 58-year-old Missoni, his wife Maurizia Castiglioni, two of the couple’s Italian friends and two Venezuelan crew members.

A spokeswoman for Missoni said: “The Missoni family has been informed by the Venezuelan consulate that Vittorio Missoni and his wife are missing, but we don’t know any more.”

The plane took off at 11.39am on Friday and had been expected to arrive at Caracas’ Simon Bolivar International Airport 42 minutes later.
