John King, Chief executive, House of Fraser

House of Fraser chairman Don McCarthy may be a hugely influential force at the department store chain, but chief executive John King is the true strategy implementor.

King’s diligence has ensured his and McCarthy’s vision for a premium national department store chain is coming to fruition.

New House of Fraser stores have opened in Westfield London, Belfast and High Wycombe, which have helped the business record a 2.7% uplift in sales for the 39 weeks to October 25.

King is respected for his motivational skills and his ability to instil loyalty within his staff, but his ability to work successfully with McCarthy has to be one of his biggest achievements since he joined HoF in 2007.
