John Lewis boosted by end of Sale

A flurry of business at the end of the John Lewis summer Sale last week helped the department store to a 6.3% rise in sales to £48.6 million over the week to July 25.

During the week, fashion sales led the way, up 12.5% across both menswear and womenswear, as customers began shopping for new season arrivals.

All of John lewis’ stores bar six of the 27-strong portfolio were up on last year and home shopping arm, John Lewis Direct, also made great gains with sales up 29% on the year.

The John Lewis store in Newcastle was the best performer with sales up 11%, followed by Southampton, up 10% and Glasgow up 9%.
