John Lewis enjoys "cracking" end to clearance Sale

John Lewis said its clearance Sale concluded with a “cracking” performance as sales in the week to January 12 climbed 18.7% compared to the same week the previous year.

Fashion sales in the final week of clearance rose 8% as women’s handbags continued to be a best-selling category.

Every John Lewis branch saw like-for-like growth, with Swindon and Milton Keynes enjoying the best of the sales, up by 29% and 25% respectively.

Online sales through rose by 38.6% with “all metrics in positive territory”.

“It was great to see such a week when everything came together so well, but I sit here typing knowing that snow is on its way… Hopefully we and our customers will navigate it safely and successfully towards the end of our financial year,” said Nat Wakely director of selling operations for region A at John Lewis.
