John Lewis fashion sales continue to soar

Fashion sales at John Lewis have continued to outperform all other categories at the department store, increasing by 20% in the week ending July 17.

During the final week of its Clearance Sale, John Lewis said swimwear sales soared 91% while sales of raincoats shot up 101%, due to the “vagaries in the weather” during the last week. General schoolwear was also strong.

Sales at online arm John Lewis Direct rose 28% with the performance driven by fashion, in particular accessories.

Total sales at John Lewis rose 9.8% to £57.75m during the week.

With the worsening weather, most of its out-of-town shops put in a stronger week than the previous week with Bluewater leading, up 28%. Trafford Centre was next, up 16%, while Kingston and Cambridge notched up 14%.
