Fashion sales at department store retailer John Lewis soared by 10.6% during the week to September 19, with the majority of the retailer’s stores making gains on last year.
Total sales at the 28-store department store group rose 6.6% to £50.5m, with 20 of the stores beating last year’s performance.
Within the fashion category, childrenswear, menswear, accessories and womenswear posted 16%, 11%,10% and 7% rises respectively.
Sales at the retailer’s home shopping arm rose 46%.
John Lewis selling operations director David Barford said: “The common themes that contributed to our performance were a strong response to newness and value, both of which we are committed to providing throughout the coming season.
“It’s an exciting week as we move ever closer to peak trading with this week seeing the first full week of trading in Bluewater since project completion and the opening of our new branch in Cardiff.”
