Fashion sales at department store retailer John Lewis jumped 11% year-on-year over the week to October 24 as new season merchandise began to feed through.
Total sales at the retailer climbed 9.1% to £56.8m and 19 stores in the 28-store John Lewis portfolio made sales gains against the year before.
John Lewis, director of operational development, Andrew Murphy said that the strong performance was up against soft comparables. He said: “We continue to keep a watchful eye on our two-year comparisons, which remind us we are not yet trading at a level that could allow us to relax or believe that sustained growth will come easy at any point in the near future.”
The retailer said childrenswear benefited from half term sales activity and was the strongest performer in fashion category last week. Menswear and sportswear, with own-brand casualwear had a strong week.
