Sales at John Lewis jumped 15% for the week to November 21, helped by a strong performance of branded menswear across the 29-store chain.
The department store recorded sales of £78.5m over the week.
Menswear brands including Fat Face, Ted Baker, and Calvin Klein underwear performed strongly over the week.
David Barford, John Lewis director of selling operations, said: “The toy department has been incredibly busy this week. Other departments are also outperforming, with men’s fashion sales very strong as women start shopping for their partners. Customers are continuing to respond really well to our inspiring products, great value and differentiated service.”
In the run-up to Christmas, John Lewis reveals its top-line figures on a Monday, ahead of a more detailed breakdown of John Lewis’ weekly performance on a Friday. It will also release mid-week trading updates on a Thursday over the next few weeks.
John Lewis has an annual turnover of over £6.9 billion and all 69,000 John Lewis staff are partners in the business.
