Lavish Habit in Balham, south London

Chosen by Katie Grassby, buying and design director at lifestyle retailer White Stuff

Lavish Habit, a boutique with a cafe attached, opened earlier this year in Balham in south London and it has fast become one of my favourite places to shop. It stocks an eclectic mix of lovingly upcycled retro furniture and jewellery, gifts and clothes, as well as serving great coffee.

The store carries small unknown labels that are selected to complement the spirit and integrity of the vintage environment.

Buys are small and the choice is edited, supporting the eclectic, one-off feeling. It’s great that the clothes are selected as standalone items and are not swayed by trend. The offer is small but it provides something different and unique.

Two local sisters, Nicola and Vanessa Karan, are the brains behind Lavish Habit and their passion for clothing and lovingly sourced treasures really comes across. The sisters are constantly reworking the interiors and the hand-picked furniture and product are beautifully displayed throughout the shop’s two floors.
