Erdem Moralioglu’s demure, ladylike world was invaded by otherworldly creatures, as aliens took to the catwalk. The silhouette was Erdem to a tee: chic, elegant dresses – this time with 1950s Wasp-like nipped waists, full below-the-knee skirts and prim ruffled collars – alongside pencil skirts and duster coats. But his trademark lace, silk and satin collided with panels of reptilian skin, space-age plastics, mesh, neons and patent leather. Autumn’s delicate painterly florals bloomed again but as artificial plastic flowers and scattered stones in genetically engineered shades.
In short Retro 1950s silhouettes continued Erdem’s elegant handwriting, updated by exploring new fabric contrasts and unusual colour combinations.
