Luella Bartley, Designer

Fashion journalist-turned-designer Luella Bartley’s ditsy petal-print dresses had a serious impact when she sent them down the catwalk for spring 08, and every high street chain worth its salt has featured floral tea dress incarnations over the past year.

Phrases such as “Princess Margaret on acid” and “cute but always a little bit sick” have been used by the designer to describe her recent collections, and it is this edginess that has kept her Luella label in favour.

Capping off 2008 with the Designer of the Year accolade at the British Fashion Awards in November, Bartley is clearly deserving of her place on this list.
