Mary Katrantzou had major hype to live up to when preparing her collection for this season, having been named as the one to watch by many fashion commentators. But the designer was never going to disappoint and her collection lived up to every word. The Newgen prodigy kept true to her roots with trademark digital prints of everyday objects, ranging from a typewriter to crayons. The silhouette had moved on, though, from the severe lampshade shaping of past collections to more floaty, layered skirts and sophisticated wide-legged trouser suits. Embellishment in the form of embroidery and diamante made the collection sparkle, and everything was colour coordinated to within an inch of its life. Katrantzou has already earned her commercial stripes at Topshop with her first sell-out collaboration; this collection proves she can do grown-up as well.
